Final Round Table of LARGIS II Project
"Assistance to Regional Development Policy in Ukraine"

|
LARGIS II Project, funded by the Department for International
Development (DFID), closes up its activity in Ukraine in May 2006 and the
final round table is in a way a report on activity which was performed for
almost a year jointly with the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine (the Regional
Policy Department). |
|
|
|
LARGIS II Project is a continuation of LARGIS I Project "Local
and Regional Government Institutional Strengthening" (DFID), which
was completed in December 2002. |
|
|
|
The purpose of the round table was to present the package
of new instruments elaborated in order to foster sustainable regional development
in Ukraine: the State Strategy for Regional Development; the Methodology
for Defining and Ranking of Depressed Regions and Territories; the Model
Regional Contract and the Procedure of Contractual Principles Implementation
in Relationships between the National Executive Authorities and the Local
Self-Government Bodies; the Draft Institutional and Technical Procedures
for Preparation, Assessment, and Distribution of the State Capital Investment
Grants; and the Model of a Regional Development Agency. |

The participants of the Final Event of the Project were the
representatives of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, the LARGIS II Project
Team; the British Department for International Development (DFID), the donor
of the Project; Ukrainian and international experts; and the representatives
of other organizations and projects. |
|
|
|
The round table was divided into two parts. The first part
included presentations of the Project results in each of its components.
The presentations were made by the representatives of the Ministry of Economy
and the Ukrainian experts. During the second part there was a discussion,
where the experts of the Project provided their comments and conclusions
on the Project results from the perspective of European experience. |
|
|
|
The round table was chaired by Dr. Adrian Campbell, LARGIS
II Project Director (U.K.). |
|
|
|
After the experts' speeches the Project members and the guests
took part in an informal discussion of the round table issues. |
|
|
|
All the participants of the round table were provided with
the materials describing the results of LARGIS II Project implementation.
The materials are also posted on the website of the Project. |
